What is the meaning behind your brand name?
We wanted a name that was classic. And the Alder tree is know to be particulaity symbiotic with its enviroment, something that as a clean, vegan brand, we admire and emulate.
How/why did you start your brand?
We launched Alder New York's skincare and haircare line at the end of 2016 because we couldn't find the products we wanted: products that were truly clean, vegan, genderless, and chic.
What was your biggest obstacle with launching a brand?
Formulations! It is imperative for us that our products work better even than non-clean brands on the market. This means a lot of R&D- for instance, our moisturizer contains no silicones or PEGs but has a silky, smooth texture that melts away. It takes a lot of testing to get that from clean ingredients.
What motivates you to grow your brand?
Our customers. Seeing people's enthusiasm for our products, and how happy they are when they clear up acne they've always had, or love how our products feel on their sensitive skin, or make their skin glow, makes us feel like we're making a real difference.
Any tips and tricks on using your products?
For Texture Powder, sprinkle a bit on your fingertips and then rub through your roots so you have the most control- don't sprinkle directly on your roots. And we recommend layering our moisturizer and serum.
