We were able to chat with Monica Watson, founder of Berlin Skin a brand created on the conviction that you can make really amazing, plant-based skin care products that are uncomplicated and effective. Read more about how she started the brand and her goals below!
What is the meaning behind your brand name?
The name behind the brand speaks to my german heritage: both my grandmother and mother are from berlin and have given me a wealth of knowledge over the years on how to properly nourish my skin. my grandmother specifically educated me on the "less is more" approach which greatly influences our gentle, multi-use formulas.
How/why did you start your brand?
Berlin skin was created solely because i have a deep conviction to make really great skin care products that are uncomplicated and effective. my desire is to provide a skin care routine that serves you and your skin well - and hopefully brings more beauty and contentment into your life.
What was your biggest obstacle with launching a brand?
Finding packaging that was recyclable, sustainable, and high-quality!
What motivates you to grow your brand?
The people I have met since launching my brand are the most beautiful, inspiring individuals. I love conversing with customers and fellow shop owners who share similar values - this has been the most rewarding part of the process for me and motivates me to keep going!
Any tips and tricks on using your products?
Our products are meant to be multi-use and mixable. You can blend the cocoa eye butter and sandalwood cream to make a more hydrating face cream. You can also add a drop or two of the black spruce body oil into the sandalwood cream for added benefits from the essential oils in the body oil.
Does your brand give back? How?
Yes, we give a portion of our profits to organizations we deeply care about. On a global level, we give back to Remember Nhu, and on a local level to David's Harp Foundation.
