What is the meaning behind your brand name?
The first remedy I formulated was in a little bowl with a black chicken painted on it. My gut feeling was that this name was perfect for my skincare brand because it held the story of how it all began, so I went with it. Some marketing experts I consulted at the time told me this was a bad decision and it would put people off buying my products – but I went with my gut and I’m so glad I did.
How/why did you start your brand?
I’ve been an ocean swimmer all my life. Salt water and our Australian weather can be harsh on skin and mine was always dry. I couldn’t find a product that could effectively rehydrate and rejuvenate the skin all over my body – that was a problem I was desperate to solve. That was the trigger. My first blend (Love Your Body Oil) solved that problem for me and later became the first product in my range.
What was your biggest obstacle with launching a brand?
I was told I couldn’t make highly effective 100% natural products without using harmful preservatives, or chemicals, or water as a filler. But I was determined to. Our range only consists of powders, pastes, balms and oils.
What motivates you to grow your brand?
Learning about essentials oils changed my life, so I made my passion my business. I have a burning desire to make it easy for people to transition from nasty to natural skincare products and make my remedies accessible to more people.
Any tips and tricks on using your products?
Cleanse My Face oil cleanser goes well with our Complexion Polish (face exfoliator). Love Your Body Oil and Transcendence Essential Oil Perfume #1 are infused with our Signature scent so using them together extends the scent for many hours.
Does your brand give back? How?
National Breast Cancer Foundation (Australia) We launched a limited edition (pink packaged) version of our hero product Axilla™ Deodorant Paste. Customers get 25% more deodorant paste and $2 from every tub sold goes to breast cancer research.
